I feel like ME3 really dropped the ball with Joker's disability, to be honest. They'd established that he has a condition that affects his health and restricts his mobility, and all we got in ME3 were some stupid jokes about him smashing his pelvis on EDI's metal vagina, even after Chakwas tells us he's probably in a lot of pain because he's bad at remember his medication without her around to treat him.
I definitely fleshed out in my own universe that on 'bad leg days' Joker uses crutches to help him get around. Because he's living with a chronic condition, not just a character quirk. Joker is a disabled man who has strived and pushed to be seen for his true potential, and I think he'd tear right into anyone who tried to shame him, especially on the days when he can't "suck it up" and be one of those Inspiration Disabled People who doesn't need any aids or help through the sheer power of will (*rolls eyes back into head*). Yes, he's disabled, yes, he's the best pilot around; together those are significant, because of how much harder he had to work to be taken seriously.

When Joker first described his condition and how he gets around way back in ME1, this is what I saw in my head. Of course he had a shirt on...
